Newspapers - historic and recent: Newspapers at the British Library

How to access newspapers at SIA, online, and at other libraries

The British Library has a very large collection of newspapers, both mainstream and specialist.  The collection of British titles is comprehensive, and the number of titles from around the world is large.

Most titles are available online, though generally only via the British Library's own computers.  It is only possible to consult the paper originals if the Library has neither a digitised, online copy nor a microfilm copy; paper originals are kept at the Library's Boston Spa store, and need to be ordered 48 hours in advance.  A very small number of newspapers are available online from any location, if you have a British Library reader's pass.

The British Library has a dedicated reading room, the Newsroom, for newspapers.

MA students can access American Indian Newspapers and ANNO: Austrian Newspapers Online at Senate House Library.
