Quick Guide to Online Research

This guide is a primer on conducting scholarly research remotely, highlighting the most fundamental, important, and most powerful resources available to Sotheby's Institute of Art, New York MA students, faculty, and staff.

Basic Reference Sources

For basic information on artists, art movements, art terms, and art history, we recommend Oxford Art Online which includes Grove's Dictionary of Art Online, Benezit, and other key art reference sources.  Grove's and Benezit are particularly useful for biographical information on artists.

For information on correct academic writing style, proper citation formats, etc., we highly recommend the Chicago Manual of Style Online.

Please note that these resources require your SSO for access.
